Visiting the dentist regularly will not only help keep your teeth and mouth healthy, but will also help keep the rest of your body healthy. Dental care is important because it helps prevents tooth decay, periodontal disease, and bad breath, while giving you a more attractive smile.
Your teeth may feel fine, but it's still important to schedule regular appointments with our team because problems can exist without you knowing.
During your first office visit you should be able to determine whether the dentist is right for you. During your appointment, consider scheduling convenience, office location, cleanliness and open communication about procedures and cost.
Maintaining your oral health between visits is very important and includes always remembering to brush with fluoride toothpaste and floss your teeth at least two times a day (including your tongue!), avoid tobacco and foods with a lot of sugar, and schedule routine check-ups at least every six months.
Any age can be a great time to see an orthodontist if you want to improve the look and feel of your smile. The American Association of Orthodontists recommends that children first visit an orthodontist around the age of seven; however, orthodontic treatment is not exclusive to children and teens. Please contact our office and schedule a consultation with Dr. Chiasson to look into options for your child or for yourself.
Invisalign aligners are clear and removable, making them a seamless fit with your lifestyle and day-to-day interactions with others. Unlike traditional metal braces, Invisalign treatment does not use metal brackets or wires that could cause irritation to your mouth or appear unaesthetic. Also, 3D computer imaging technology allows you to view your virtual results and personalized treatment plan before you start your treatment, enabling you to preview how your teeth will look once your treatment is complete. To find out if Invisalign is right for you, please call our office today and schedule a consultation with Dr. Chiasson to learn more.
Insurance coverage and out-of-pocket expenses for cosmetic treatment vary. Our expert team will work with you to provide several different treatment options. If coverage is available, we will coordinate with your insurance provider. You will know all of your treatment costs up-front so that you can choose the one that best suits your needs. Contact us to discuss any and all cosmetic options to help give you the smile you want and deserve.
Gum disease, also known as periodontal disease, is a gum infection surrounding your teeth and is one of the top reasons for tooth loss in adults. It is caused by a build-up of plaque which, if not removed, will continue to build and create toxins that can damage the gums just below the gum line and create small pockets that can separate the gums from the teeth. Gingivitis — This is the early stage of gum disease, when the gums become red and swollen, and bleed easily. At this stage, the disease is treatable and can usually be eliminated by daily brushing and flossing. Periodontitis — If left untreated the gums and bone that support the teeth will become seriously and irreversibly damaged causing teeth to become loose, fall out or be removed by a dentist. Certain factors can increase a patient's risk of developing periodontal disease, including:
• Smoking
• Diabetes
• Certain types of medication
• Ill-fitting bridges
• Old fillings
• Pregnancy
Yes it is possible, but if you know the symptoms you can avoid further damage to your gums and teeth. Some symptoms include:
• Bleeding, red, swollen, tender gums
• Gums that have pulled away from the teeth
• Persistent bad breath or bad taste
• Any change in the way your teeth fit together when you bite
