Restore Your Smile With a Bridge

Missing teeth can affect your ability to chew properly and cause surrounding teeth to drift out of position. For many patients, a dental bridge that uses their existing teeth to hold one or more false teeth in place is a great solution for restoring their smile.

Bridges can also help correct minor bite issues and even improve speech. We create custom bridges at our on-site dental lab to restore your smile and your overall health.

The Dangers of Missing Teeth

Your oral health is connected to your overall health. And this can become particularly apparent when you’re dealing with a missing tooth. A dental bridge can solve the aesthetic concern of missing teeth and protect you against more serious health issues.

Issues arising from missing teeth include:

  • Discomfort when chewing
  • Jaw and facial muscle issues due to adjusting how you chew
  • Changes in your face shape, if your teeth shift to adjust to the gap
  • Changes in your speech and pronunciation
  • Tooth sensitivity or grinding due to shifting teeth
  • Changes in tooth positions and bite from shifting and erupting teeth

In some cases, a missing tooth may not cause serious issues. Book an appointment with your dentist to know for sure.

About Dental Bridges

A bridge is a type of dental restoration that replaces one or more missing teeth. It’s a customized row of teeth that is attached to the surrounding healthy teeth.

Our patient-centred approach to dental care means we always make recommendations based on your unique oral health needs. Your dentist will be able to advise you on the right type of dental restoration for you.

The Dental Bridge Procedure

Generally, your bridge procedure will happen over the course of two appointments. In your first appointment, we’ll prepare the healthy teeth on either side of the gap so that the crown portion of the bridge can be placed over top. Alternatively, if required, we may install titanium dental implants to anchor your bridge.

Next, we’ll take an impression of your mouth that our on-site dental lab will use to create your permanent bridge.  In the meantime, your dentist will fit you with a temporary bridge to protect your exposed teeth and gums.

At your next appointment, your dentist will remove the temporary bridge and assess the fit of your new custom-made permanent bridge. Our team will make any adjustments needed to get the right fit, and may schedule a follow-up appointment.

Along the way, your dentist will always explain the process so you feel comfortable and confident with your results.

It’s important to keep up healthy oral hygiene habits after your bridge has been placed. Continue to brush twice a day and floss daily, and avoid chewing on hard items.

Regular dental exams will help you stay ahead of any problems and allow your dentist to treat them before more severe issues occur.
