Pain in the jaw, ear or teeth can be connected to a problem with the bite called TMD, or temporomandibular joint dysfunction.
The temporomandibular joint is the hinge that connects the jaw to the skull, allowing your jaw to move. Problems with this joint can occur for many reasons – grinding or clenching the teeth, arthritis of this joint and stress, to name a few.
TMD symptoms can present as headaches, earaches, ringing ears, popping jaw joints, muscle pain, swelling, trouble chewing and tooth pain – any of which may bring patients into the dental office or to their medical doctor.
Appliances can be made to help diagnose and, in some cases, relieve some of these symptoms, as well as help in determining any further treatment required for long-term health.
If you suspect you have TMD, talk to your Sheridan Dental Centre dentist.
We look forward to hearing from you.
