A Clear Alternative to Traditional Braces

Invisalign is a clear, virtually unnoticeable alternative to traditional braces, designed to progressively straighten and align teeth.

We know not everyone feels that braces are right for them, especially our adult patients. Invisalign is a great alternative for those who aren’t interested in traditional braces

How Invisalign Works

Invisalign corrects the same dental problems as metal braces: overcrowded teeth, large gaps, crossbites, overbites, and underbites.

The key difference? Invisalign aligners are much less noticeable than metal braces. Plus, Invisalign is removable, so you don’t have to avoid any foods that can damage traditional braces or change your brushing habits.

Why Straight Teeth Matter

Straight teeth look great, but that’s not the only upside. Aligned teeth also support your long-term health.

Crooked or crowded teeth are more difficult to clean and can leave you at risk of several dental concerns, including:

  • Cavities and tooth decay
  • Gum disease and possible tooth loss
  • Muscle tension and pain
  • Chipped or broken teeth due to a “bad bite,” known as a malocclusion

Invisalign braces can straighten your teeth to allow you to take excellent care of your oral health throughout your life.

Getting Invisalign

Let your dentist know during your comprehensive dental exam that you’re interested in Invisalign and what results you’d like to achieve. They can let you know if Invisalign can meet your needs.

Invisalign relies on custom-fitted removable trays, called aligners, which are changed about every two weeks. Depending on individual situations, the duration of the Invisalign procedure is about the same as traditional braces, around 2 years, or as little as 6 months.

As part of your treatment plan, your orthodontist may recommend attachments to achieve the smile you’re aiming for. Attachments are small, barely visible, tooth-coloured “anchors” that allow your aligners to achieve more complex tooth movements during your treatment.

Many patients, especially our adult patients, find Invisalign to be a great fit for their lives. For them, the perks of removable aligners include:

  • Being less noticeable to others compared to metal braces
  • Freedom to eat what you’d like
  • No broken wires or brackets
  • Typically fewer visits to the dentist than metal braces

Invisalign is a fairly low-maintenance orthodontic appliance. There are just a few changes you’ll need to make to regular habits.

We recommend wearing your aligners 20-22 hours a day. Remove them when you’re eating or drinking, then brush your teeth before you put them back in.

Every night, along with brushing and flossing your teeth, you’ll rinse your aligners and brush them gently with your toothbrush, then put them back in to sleep.
